The August Issue

Normally right now we'd be talking about summer holidays and jetting off to the med this month, but there is nothing normal about August 2020. Many of us are staying at home and discovering spots in the UK we might not have visited before, others might be travelling but that bit nearer and there are also plenty of us just staying at home! Right now there is no right or wrong approach, we all just have to do what is right for us and respect each others choices - we want to be as mindful as possible. This months August Issue features some ideas for everyone - whether you are venturing out or staying at home, all with mindfulness and sustainability at their heart.  Enjoy!

ART FOR ALL

After so long not being able to visit art galleries we are so excited to jump right back into cultural life this month. Taking some time to take in some artwork and contemplate seems like an ideal treat for August. We'll be doing our best to get up to the Anish Kapoor exhibition at Houghton Hall, Norfolk. Meanwhile galleries in London and cities around the UK are opening up to visitors, just remember to take your mask.

HIRE A BEACH HUT

Many more of us are discovering the joys of the British coastline this month. You may have enjoyed the pretty spectacle of coloured beachhuts dotted along your favourite stretches of water but did you know you can hire them out?! A quick search will come up with plenty of options local to you and will really make a difference to your day providing shade, privacy and all sorts of additional comforts for your day on the beach.

READING LIST

Top of our reading lists this months - The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett, a mesmoring story about race, so clever and layered with fascinating detail. Totally loving it! And also Pandora Sykes "How Do We Know We Are Doing It Right" Can't wait to get reading this!

LAVENDER AND SUNFLOWERS

Provence is one of our favourite places and we are thoroughly missing not getting there this year already. But you can get a little bit of classic Provencal scenery right here in the UK with Lavender and Sunflower farms in full bloom this August. We love the idea of packing a little picnic and a bottle of the pink stuff to enjoy in the beautiful surroundings. La Vie Est Belle.

BLACKBERRY SEASON

The good weather means blackberries are pretty much in season. This is such lovely thing to do with kids or on your own, scouring the hedgerows for those delicious jewels to make into blackberry jam or, if you are like us and you enjoy a tipple, then why not blackberry vodka?! Love the idea of this with something fizzy!

WHAT TO EAT...

So much beautiful produce in season. Fruit of all sorts made into crumbles, pies, or even just served with lashings of cream is top of our list. Freshly podded peas, runner beans and broadbeans are also plentiful. We've got our first crop of broadbeans up here and have been enjoying them with ricotta, mint, lemon and olive oil on a little sourdough. Delicious!

WHAT TO WEAR....

A Perfect Nomad's beautiful organic cotton dresses are perfect for warm August days. Designed in Ibiza they'll give you a touch of the mediterranean even if you can't get there yourself. They go perfectly with gorgeous new Bulibasha sandals made from coconut fibres. Our ultimate summer look - just add a Clo Stories cossie underneath and you are ready to go. We also have some stunning new in jewellery this month from Anuka and Monarc - stunning pieces to finish off your outfit. Last but not least it wouldn't be August without a little G&S sale - you can find several of our pieces at tempting prices for a limited time only.
