Behind the Brand: Karolina Ozolinsiute

Karolina Ozolinsiute is a designer driven by a lifelong fascination with craftsmanship and self-expression through clothing. Originally from Lithuania and now based in Edinburgh, her work is shaped by cultural influences, hands-on tailoring experience, and a deep curiosity about how people present themselves.

Her brand reflects an evolving journey—creating thoughtful, limited pieces that balance individuality, function, and sustainability. We caught up with Karolina as she shares the inspirations behind her work, her design process, and the values that continue to shape her growing brand.

Please start by introducing yourself:

From an early age, I was drawn to the process of creating and making. I grew up surrounded by women: my mother, grandmother, and others, who were constantly knitting, sewing, and building. Watching a simple piece of fabric or yarn gaining shape and becoming purposeful fascinated me. That transformation carried a certain energy, a sense of satisfaction that deeply resonated and pulled me toward a creative path.

Fashion became the medium through which I could explore and express myself. It allows me not only to design, but also to communicate ideas, emotions, and values. Originally from Lithuania and now living in Scotland, my perspective is shaped by a blend of cultural
influences, personal experiences, and constant exposure to new environments. I am keep
changing, 'growing', and my work along with it. It allows me to progress as a person and a
brand.

How did your brand come about - what made you want to start it? What were you doing before?

I’ve always been drawn to how people dress, the way they style themselves, and how a single outfit can shift someone’s attitude and presence. Everything I’ve learnt and invested my energy in has revolved around clothing and textiles.

Working as a tailor for individual clients gave me a deep, practical understanding of how
clothing impacts our lives, what people truly need, and what problems design can solve.

My brand began as a reflection of that experience and aspiration to make things.

Can you run through the design process - what inspires you?

I am inspired by people: their stories, both real and imagined; their individuality; their
contradictions; and their shared humanity. We are at once similar and entirely unique, each of us seeking to be seen, to feel special, and to be loved. It is this balance being extraordinary and unique that draws me to those who are unapologetically themselves: whether bold or quiet, chaotic or composed.

Reading, travelling, and connecting with others shape my perspective, each experience
deepening my understanding of aesthetics, values, and the ethical responsibilities within the fashion industry. I see both myself and my work as continuously evolving, growing as a person and a brand.

How do you source your materials and why do you choose them?

I source only small amounts of fabric, which is why all my garments are made in very limited quantities. My material choices are guided by longevity and durability, with the hope that each piece becomes part of a new cycle of use.

I love exploring materials wherever I travel: craftsmanship in fabric-making is unique in every country and culture. Each place brings its own special approach to how textiles and garments are created and finished, and that is truly remarkable!

Sustainable design matters because the choices we make as creators and consumers have a real impact on our planet and communities.

Why is sustainable design important to you?

Sustainable design matters because the choices we make as creators and consumers have a real impact on our planet and communities. Talking with customers shows me that people care and are curious and more conscious, which inspires and keeps me optimistic. I see sustainable design as a way to create positive change, and it motivates me to keep learning and improving.

You’re based in Edinburgh - how does the city inspire you?
Edinburgh is a special city, full of historical architecture, cultural diversity, and unique stories. Its blend of the stillness of January and the bustling energy of August, old and new; it is quite and loud at the same time. It is a city of contrasts, where every corner carries both told and untold tales. Living here inspires me to stay curious, creative, and deeply engaged with the world around me.
